Product Description With its enhanced design, including improved navigation, coverage, pickup, and filtration, this vacuum-cleaning robot makes it easier then ever to clean floors throughout the house--hands free. Simply press the "clean" button & the unit will vacuum the whole floor on its own, adjusting automatically to any floor surface including wood, tile, linoleum, rugs, and carpet. The vacuum's dual,high-speed,counter-rotating brushes pick up everything from tracked-in dirt by the front door to food crumbs on the kitchen floor to pet hair throughout the house. It also provides anti-tangle technology with auto reverse, innovative spinning side brushes to ensure thorough cleaning in corners and along baseboards,& a gentle-touch bumper that senses obstacles so that it can slow down and carefully clean around them. The unit's dirt sensor will direct the cleaning time & focus where it's needed most, and its low-profile design means easy cleaning under beds, couches, & other hard-to-reach areas. Another thoughtful detail includes its ability to schedule preset cleaning times--great for coming home to a clean house after a long day at the office. Even more, the cleaner comes with built-in cliff sensors that prevent it from falling down stairs and a Virtual Wall system, which allows for setting up invisible barriers that confine the unit to a designated area. The vacuum's large dustbin empties easily, and its improved filtration system traps dust, pollen,& other allergens, helping to ensure only clean air gets released back into the room. For added convenience, the vacuuming robot automatically returns to its self-charging Home Base to dock & recharge between cleaning cycles or when the battery starts to run low. Accessories include a bumper extension,a brush cleaning tool,a power adapter,a rechargeable battery,2 extra filters,2 Virtual Wall Lighthouses,& 2 Extra Bristle Brushes & 4 "C" batteries for the Virtual Walls. It measures approximately 13x13x4". 1-yr manufacturer warranty.

Very good for hard floor! July 24, 2010 Bluenycom (Racho Cucamonga, CA) Bought this from Costco for $250. It's been excellent at maintaining the floor clean longer. It's certainly no replacement for real cleaning once in a while. It's perfect for picking up my dog's hair. I use it mainly in the living room, family room, and kitchen, which are either wood or tile.
This Roomba Needs a Special Filter July 23, 2010 Jerry L Mehlberg (Alexandria, VA United States) This unit is equipped with a special "AeroVac dirt bin" and requires special filters. They are NOT the ones pictured in the "Frequently Bought Together" section of Amazon's web page. If you get a maintenance kit, be sure that it has the right kind of filters too. Many people who have the AeroVac bin (you can buy it as an accessory from iRobot) think that it is better than the standard bin, especially if you have pets.
Here is iRobot's site for the right filter:[...]
Wow May 30, 2010 J. Phillips (Austin, TX) I always shied away from robots that are doing work that I should be doing, etc. But then I got two German Shepherds. I had to vacuum every single day. Their shedding was unbelievable. I have oak hardwood floors. I decided to try a Roomba. It works wonderfully. It isn't as effective on my area rugs, but it cleans my wood floors better than my suction canister vacuum does. 5 stars all the way.
Love the Roomba March 27, 2010 Librarian (USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
After seeing my daughter's Roomba and reading several reviews posted online, I decided to purchase one for our house before spring arrived. Since getting it about a month or so ago, I have used it at least twice a week in the living area of our house which consists of a living room, dining room, kitchen, bath, and small hallway. The kitchen has linoleum and the rest has hardwood flooring. The Roomba does an absolutely fantastic job of keeping these floors swept clean. Please note: The Roomba is really a sweeper, not a vacuum; it has no suction.
If you are considering purchasing a Roomba, keep in mind that it will probably not perform nearly as well on carpet. It does an adequate job on the thin WalMart runners we have down by the door but on the deeper pile runner it doesn't do nearly as well. We have 2 short-haired dachshunds but I'm not sure how well the Roomba would handle an abundance of longer pet hair. Also, I am very conscientious about emptying the dustbin AND cleaning the brush, roller thingy, and bearings after each use. These tasks are not difficult as it is truly designed so it can be done easily and quickly. I think anyone considering buying this rather pricey item should evaluate all the factors just mentioned (flooring, pet hair, willingness to clean the machine) to decide if the Roomba will work for them.
I am lazy February 8, 2010 Danny L. Allen 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I have had the 550 model for about a year. It cleans my little house great. I work at a middle school as a janitor. I take it to school & turn it loose in the library. It does a great job in there & it gives me more time to work somewere else. I wish the price would drop so I could buy 2 or 3 more or they make a battery that would last longer than 1hr. 20min.
