Great for everyday use.. Use it often or else.... January 21, 2010 Amitola Acres (Florida) I have now owned a Roomba Discovery, a 535 and my latest is the 530 which is only 3 days old at the time of this review. These little guys are great for every day cleaning, especially if you suffer from allergies such as dust and pet dander like my husband does. They pick up plenty of dust, sand, bird feathers and pet hair. Having to empty the bin after each use is actually a blessing in disguise for people who suffer from allergies because all those allergens are not sitting around in your regular vac. They are dumped into the kitchen trash which is taken out daily. I have found that these robots work the best and last the longest if you use them on a regular basis and not just once or twice a week (As I did with my original Discovery model). It seems the batteries go bad on them rather quickly if you don't use them at least every other day. If you don't plan to run them but maybe once or twice a week, I would say to stick with your regular vac because your Roomba will probably end up being useless within 6 or 8 months due to the battery no longer holding a charge. These are a big investment, so save yourself some heartache and use your Roomba at least every other day and clean it on a regular basis to keep it in tip top shape. The warranty period leaves much to be desired so I would suggest getting a 3 year warranty through another source such as Square Trade or something.
Just so you all know.... I run my Roomba every morning while I sit and drink my morning coffee. I have a Yellow Labrador, Labrador x Catahoula mix, Long haired cat, Siamese cat, 12 birds, 3 kids plus all the other usual dirt and debris that gets brought in daily. My Roomba does an excellent job at keeping my floors clean and I believe it also helps keep my home odor free because it cleans up daily instead of just running the big vac once or twice a week.
beats vacuuming December 31, 2009 Eric Kjeldergaard I have had this unit for about 2 years. It really does pick up more than I expected. The great weakness is that I find myself having to clean the roomba nearly every use as it is easily tangled up with hair (I have 2 cats) and the bin fills quickly. Cleaning the roomba is still much faster than going through the whole place with a vacuum and it does a good job of getting up the dust.
535 Not a Better Roomba - buy an older model September 12, 2009 N.Highum (Dripping Springs, TX United States) Purchased Roomba535 in May of 2008 - immediately after 1-year warranty, unit started having problems. Indications were that the bumper sensors needed cleaning. Did that. Still won't work. Have wasted much time and energy trying to get this "updated" model to work reliably. I also have two older original "400" series models. They both work great. I use the oldest one (almost 10-years old) for our large screened porch where three cats live. It cleans thoroughly and never hiccups. I empty the bin and clean the brushes once in a while. That's it. Forget the automatic docking and scheduling features on the newer models. They are not worth the huge inconvenience of the models constantly needing cleaning or service. Just more to go wrong. The original Roombas are solid and reliable. Roomba service is a joke. You're own your own ... so get a simple, tried and true workhorse - the original Roomba. Still cleaning after all these years.
Cat Hair August 12, 2009 Stretch (Raleigh) My daughter loves the Roomba. Two cats live with her and her floor is always free of cat hair.
Factory Warranty July 21, 2009 gameman of NC (new bern, nc) I bought my Model 530 almost two years ago. I recently started having a problem with the side whisk brush coming off. My efforts to fix it failed (duct tape doesn't work), so I called customer service, explained my problem and they are sending me a replacement module FREE!! You can't beat that.
We use Rambo almost daily and we love it.
