Product Description
Just press the Clean button! The iRobot Roomba 530 vacuuming robot cleans more rooms, more effectively.Longer battery life allows it to clean up to 3 rooms on a single charge, and it cleans them better than ever with redesigned brushes and a stronger vacuum. Roomba navigates wirelessly under and around furniture, along walls and in corners, automatically adjusting from carpets to hard floors, carefully avoiding hazards like stairs and drop-offs. Anti-tangle technology prevents it from getting stuck on power cords, carpet fringe and other loose fibers. A larger air filter captures more allergens, and a larger debris bin keeps the dirt, dust and pet hair where it belongs. When the battery's low or cleaning is complete, Roomba 530 will return automatically to its charging base to dock and recharge. This smart, efficient vacuuming robot will save you time and effort, while keeping your home wonderfully clean--it's time you got one!Smart programming The Roomba 530 senses and avoids rug tassels, power cords and phone cords. Virtual Walls prevent Roomba from entering off-limit' areas. This robot even senses where the floor is dirtier and automatically cleans those areas more intensely! When it's done cleaning, Roomba automatically returns to its base to recharge. Cleans more rooms The Roomba 530 cleans more area at a time than previous models--3 rooms per charge. It slides easily under your furniture to reach the dirt ordinary vacuums leave behind. Plus, the Spot Clean feature lets you quickly clean up spills and messes. Better brushes The redesigned side brush reaches deeper into corners, and all the brushes spin faster to capture more dirt, dust and pet hair. A stronger vacuum Roomba's super-strong vacuum penetrates even the thickest carpet and densest pet hair. Vacuum pick-up has been improved, and the bagless dustbin holds more, too. Improved air filter A larger air filter traps more dust and allergens, so Roomba's system stays clean--and your family can bre

4 out of 5 stars Roomba saves TIME   January 5, 2009
Nicholas Acosta (Houston, TX)
Ok, so my wife had been telling me for years about this little gadget, how it saves time and money, so on and so on. As your typical husband I listen but don't actually HEAR my wife right, lol. Well Christmas time was approaching and I am desperately trying to find what the love of my life needs for Christmas. In pops this little snippet of lecture from my wife into my brain, if I had a Roomba I wouldn't have to vacuum every day and the floor would be cleaner. So off I go to the wide world of searching for a Roomba. I actively read the review which are so important when spending more than a quarter on a product. I like all other intelligent men cannot see how someone would spend several hundred dollars on a vacuum cleaner. I thought I won this battle four year ago when I bought this $500 vacuum for my wife, well unbeknowst to me, that takes a human to operate, a human needs motivation to vacuum. I can't purchase motivation therefore I am reading reviews for an additional $300-$400 vacuum cleaner.

So I take the dive and purchase this little white guy called the Roomba 530, of course being cheap I had to get a used one. The transaction goes perfect, the wife loves the little guy but I (being the one who spent the money) am not yet convinced this is a smart investment. So I turn the little guy on and follow him around the house, even still to this day I am in utter amazement by the knowledge this little guy has. My entire living room, dining room, hallway and kitchen are tile. I have a dog and two children, the dust and dog hair are overwhelming. Since having our Roomba; whom we have named Clank, I love walking through our home barefooted. I am honestly in sheer amazement. When I want the house vacuumed it requires two things, I walk over and turn on the geofence, then walk over to Clank, press his Clean button and disappear. Voila, everything is done and not just done but done extremely well. The only issue I have had with my Clank is that he sometimes runs under the computer desk and disappears into a maze of cords with never a way of returning to the world of light. I have since learned how to "block" or geofence that area. Smooth sailing from there. I can honestly say that this is by far the best investment I have made in years. I would not be writing such a lengthy review if I didn't recommend this guy. If you are/were in my boat and didn't believe this things works, I can promise you will not be dissatisfied if your circumstances are the same as mine. If you are dirty, leave junk lying around your home obviously you will not like the Roomba, if you have tile and keep a relatively clean home and just hate dirt on the floor, you will enjoy this as much as my family has. Good Luck and don't steal the name of my Clank!!

5 out of 5 stars Immaculate Floors and even fun to watch   January 2, 2009
Caedis Hax (Texas, USA)
My parents were early adopters of the Roomba a few years back and back then the Roomba had vacuuming abilities of a low end cheap vacuum. I was still convinced of the technology and decided to buy one for my apartment as a first "real" vacuum. My wife was skeptical and I didn't have very high expectations at first. After about 2 days of it running, 4 months of dirty floors became absolutely immaculate. Our soot and dirt filled white carpet turned back to pearly white again. Granted it did take about 2 days of it running to get to this stage, but still, that's the point, YOU don't have to clean, it does! (Plus once it's clean you can just run Roomba once every 2-3 days)

A few things to note:
1. Check the waste bin and air filter before every cleaning. It takes 30 seconds tops to open, empty, tap clean, and re-insert
2. Check and clean the brushes often, this really does help to make sure it gets more dirt up
3. Don't get entranced! Me and my wife easily sat for almost 45 minutes one time just watching it clean the house, so fascinating. Just let it do it's thing and it'll charge itself, easy.

I was worried that it wouldn't have the sense to return to it's base all the way on the other side of the apartment when it was done, but I was wrong. It gives itself PLENTY of wiggle room with it's battery charge in order to make sure it can make it back to it's base. Essentially it just runs until it get's down to about an hour of remaining battery and then goes into "dock" mode where it just continues to clean and wander about the house. If you've done due diligence in making sure the base is pointed at a large swath of open space in your living room it'll simply clean till it notices the invisible IR beam shooting out of the charging base and it will hone in on the signal and dock itself.

I would recommend (after the initial 16 hour "refresh" charge) simply setting the Roomba down and watching it clean. See where it likes to go most and try to place the base station there. Make sure that you give it a good 4-6 feet clearance in front of the station so it has plenty of room to notice and hone in on it's signal. I placed it at the end of the hallway leading from my front door to my kitchen, this way if it's in either room moving between them, it's going to notice the charging base signal. Just be smart about it, think like a robot.

All in all, superb vacuum. Me and my wife have no real desire to buy a "real" vacuum anytime soon and were very happy that I bit the bullet and got a Roomba instead of a pain-in-the-butt-upright.

5 out of 5 stars How this thing gets les then 4 Stars is beyond me...   December 31, 2008
Bad Wolf (Virginia Beach)
Seriously. I got this for the wife for Xmas. This is the greatest friggen thing I have purchased this year. And I have bought a butt load of stuff.

Ok, if you are a pig, living in a crap-hole, yeah, you may have broken it after 4 days, or have unreal expectations for it.

I on the other hand, have a clean house, have the children clean up after themselves, and am "normal" with "normal" expectations from a consumer product.

This thing cleans when you don't want to. Christmas Night, for example, we let it loose in the tree room after picking up the boxes and paper. This thing picked up those annoying toy twist ties, the cardboard pieces from the boxes, and paper we missed like they were NOTHING.

After using the Roomba, the room was spotless. Job done.

After Christmas dinner, with 5 children in the house, we moved the chairs out of the way, and Virtual Walled the little puppy in the kitchen area where it then picked up EVERY CRUMB, or piece of ham, salad, whatever that was in there. Even a few toothpicks.

I have run this thing no less then 15 times since Christmas day, and as I stated, I am a CLEAN person, and I am amazed that it is STILL picking up dust. I am actually determined to run this thing until there is no dust.

It's running right now actually, as I type this. It goes for 2 hours, EASY, on a charge. That is good enough for 3 rooms, usually done in this way, my Kitchen, living room (which is a great room), and Foyer. Then the 3 Bedrooms. Sunroom by itself cus it is a lower level, and it doesn't do stairs.

If you got a bad one, give it another chance, this really is a great product. I didn't believe how well it would work until I got one. My house has been dog hairless since Christmas!

1 out of 5 stars WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER`   December 22, 2008

Purchased a Roomba 530. Wouldn't work after 3 days. Called customer service to troubleshoot the product but couldn't be resolved. iRobot asked me to ship it in. It wouldn't pay for shipping and I had to pay it out of my own pocket. Had to contact customer support to find the status of my return and they say it's going to take 3-4 weeks when I was promised in writing that it would only take 10 days to ship out. Not sure if they are any other business which sells products for over $300 and provide crappy customer support. Very dissapointed in product and customer service.

5 out of 5 stars Servo...... My Roomba evaluation   December 20, 2008
Joyce Moore
I don't even know how I ended up looking a Roombas a couple of weeks back, but I am glad I did! Actually the Dirt Dog came up as a "gold Box" sale item and curiosity as to what it was got me to look at it. As it happens, there was a brand new 530 model was being offered as slightly used and a great price, sooooo I bought it.
Glad I did, I love it! We named it "Servo" after a character on Mystery Science Theater TV show. Servo has now been introduced into every room and has done remarkably well. With a Corgi around, we have continual dog fur.
I've seen complaints that is too noisy, but this unit is quieter than my upright vacuum and the dogs are not afraid of it.
I ran it in my "guest" bedroom and it even vacuums under the bed. Nice! Afterwards, I ran my upright in there to see if it measured up. The upright picked up a little more dog hair( maybe a dozen hairs) but all the dust and dirt was already cleaned up.
What's not to love?
Update: I vacuumed the bedroom with "Servo", then decided to shampoo the carpet. I was amazed that when I emptied the shampoo reservoir, there was only dirty water in it and no dog fur!! Woo Hoo! Proof positive that this unit is superior to my upright vacuum cleaner.
