Roomba Virtual Walls April 6, 2010 Betty J. Ingram (San Antonio, TX) The virtual walls work well. I use them to block off areas that get little use and do not need vacuuming every day. Our floor plan is open. The virtual walls allow the Roomba to spend more time in the areas that really need cleaning. It would have been helpful to have received information letting me know that the new virtual walls turn off automatically and must be clicked back on before the Roomba begins cleaning. I assume this feature conserves energy. The virtual walls that came with the Roomba stay on continuously, so I thought something was wrong with the new virtual walls when they did not stop the Roomba the second day they were in use. Incidentally, I think the Roomba is a great product. It picks up a lot of dog hair even when it runs right after the floors have been vacuumed.
Virtual wall 2003 February 26, 2010 Mercutio I purchased this virtual wall as a second wall and use with my dirt dog roomba and the scooba. First of all, despite being an old edition of the virtual wall, it works fine with the roomba/scooba (purchased in the past six months).
This wall performs its job as well as the newer model wall I received with the scooba. That is, it does just an ok job.
It seems to me that the wall produced by this virtual wall is composed by a circle around the wall itself, and a cone emitted at the wall. 3 settings are available for the size of the wall. But at any setting, the cone has a very large angle and will likely cover areas that you want cleaned, unless you spend a lot of time finding the right tilt to give the virtual wall. Also, the circle around the wall seems to me too big.
As a last note, I had the impression that the roomba/scoobas go crazy (either ignore the wall or stay way too far away from it) when the two walls are close by (say making an L shape), or when the wall is directly pointing at my physical white wall (I suspect some bouncing of the wall of the signal).
With all this drawbacks, I still think that for the $10 I payed for it it is a good value. Certainly, it is more practical than stacking up boxes and books to build a wall.
Virtual Wall December 9, 2009 B. Lloyd (Florida) With the large openings I have from room to room this V.W. works well. I can contain the IRobot to completing one room before moving it to another.
Works very well - good value December 9, 2009 Just a guy (Westchester, NY) The price on this has come down a lot, so it is now a good value. It works great and having an extra wall or two allows the Roomba to work much better. We have found the Roomba works best when confined to a 10x10 space - or something similar. When left to roam a large room, it just gets confused and runs over some areas of the room many times, but leaves other untouched.
These take D cell batteries, but the batteries last forever.
Roomba Virtual Wall review February 4, 2009 marianswede (Oregon, USA) I ordered two, and they arrived quickly. They don't work consistently, which is a problem, but I don't know if that's the fault of the virtual walls or that my Roomba is old (perhaps the Roomba isn't seeing see the "wall" at certain angles or in certain positions). But they did arrive quickly!
